In quantum information and communication based on single photons, the security of communication is based on the quantum mechanical properties of photons that are the minimum unit of a quantum. The development of quantum repeater technology based on quantum entangled photon pairs is also a key technology for the future extension of the communication networks. However ideal single-photon and quantum entangled photon pair sources are still being developed. In this report the present related issues are discussed and the possibility of semiconductor quantum dot photon sources are presented.
