An Implementation of Compressed Sensing for Soil Moisture Monitoring on Sensor Nodes and Evaluation of Soil Moisture Sensors

(in English) In Wireless Sensor Networks, it is desirable to compress sensing data for long-life operation of sensor nodes because communication extremely decreases battery life. We proposed compressed sensing method for memory constrained sensor nodes and applied our proposal method for soil moisture monitoring. For this, we monitored soil moisture for 30 days using a sensor node with a soil moisture sensor, and then, compressed and reconstructed the measured data by our compressed sensing method. The result shows that our method can save the energy consumption of sensor nodes. Furthermore, we developed a printed capacitive sensor using silver nanoparticle ink for low cost and power consumption, and evaluated performance of this sensor.
