We report the simulation result of 6-bit optical quantization using phase modulator based spectral compression. Recently, the high-speed analog-to-digital (A/D) conversion without the limitation of electrical processing speed is required in a wide variety of broadband application. Previously, we have proposed 6-bit optical quantization using soliton self frequency shift (SSFS) and spectral compression. In the spectral compression, we used dispersion in a single mode fiber (SMF) and the self-phase modulation in a high nonlinear fiber (HNLF). In this work, we replaced a HNLF with an optical phase modulator in spectral compression to achieve high compression ratio and applied it to our 6-bit optical quantization. Comparing with the previous spectral compression, we can achieve the 3.3 times compression ratio and reduce 3.3 dB input power for 6-bit optical quantization. Furthermore, we confirmed the reliability of our system by simulating the bit-error rate (BER) at representative 64 intensity levels. |
