Evaluation of color extraction for a book cover image reflecting readers' impression

Book cover images give users not only impressions of contents intuitively but also clues for search and browsing before or after buying books. In this research, we proposed a color extraction method as the first step of automatically creating book cover images reflecting readers' impressions. We constructed a database focused on the relationships between adjectives and colors and extracted colors from contents and reviews. We prepared 14 groups of colors such as colors extracted by this method, colors created by extracted colors based on hue difference, and colors in published covers. In a usability test for 4 participants, we confirmed that the group of colors extracted by this method was most selected by participants, and could more reflect reader”Ēs impression than published covers. |
