We have reported high perpendicular exchange anisotropy of about 0.3 erg/cm2 using Pt/Co/α-Cr2O3(0001) thin films fabricated by means of DC magnetron sputtering method. We have also reported a unique temperature dependence that the perpendicular exchange bias (PEB) suddenly appeared. The sudden appearance of PEB can be explained by the competition of an exchange coupling energy at Co/α-Cr2O3 interface and a magnetic anisotropy of α-Cr2O3 layer. In this study, we investigate the control of the interface exchange coupling energy inserting Pt spacer layer at Co/α-Cr2O3 interface and the resultant change in the onset temperature of PEB. The films showed that the decrease of the unidirectional anisotropy energy JK and the increase of the onset temperature of PEB. These results qualitatively agree with the Meiklejohn and Bean’s exchange anisotropy model. |
