We fabricated photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) slow light device using matured CMOS-compatible process, which provides high accuracy, uniformity and reproducibility. The optical coupling between external setup and the PCW is considerably improved by integrating spot size converters. Using individually controllable heaters integrated adjacent to the PCW, the temperature slope is formed on demand inside the PCW, and the delay is controlled via the heating power. We also proposed to replace conventional low-speed (~10 Hz) mechanically tunable delay line in optical correlator with the thermally tunable slow light device, and successfully observed the cross-correlation trace with a fast repetition frequency over 1 kHz. |
