An Impulse Noise Reduction Technique for Extremely Corrupted Color Images

The switching median filter with boundary discriminative noise detection (BDND) has a good performance for extremely corrupted impulsive noise detection; however its performance is degraded with conditions of the occurrence of the impulsive noise and its application for color images has not been considered. This paper proposes an impulsive noise reduction method based on the BDND for color images. The noise reduction part in the proposed filter is adopted the color interpolation technique proposed by Wakabayashi and Taguchi. This interpolation method has considered the correlation between color components and given the fine estimation performance for degraded pixels. The proposed method contributes to improve the detection rate and the noise reduction performance for the color image. The simulation results show that the proposed method can give the good performance for the highly corrupted color image. |
