Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In this paper, we present an image recognition system for generating
Go-kifu (i.e., Go-records) automatically from games played by human
professionals on a TV program. For an MPEG2 movie of a Go TV program,
the system distinguishes game shots from other types of shots such as
commentary shots in which commentators show candidates of where to place
Go-stones, determines the position of the Go-board, and detects
Go-stones played on the board from game shots. The system deals with
several problems encountered on the TV program. It has to remove
several types of noise like players' heads or hands. In addition, it
also detects Go-stones from commentary shots which are often inserted
between game shots, and compensates the order of Go-stones placed on the
Go-board during commentary shots. We have implemented the system, and
performed experiments for eight games on the TV program, whose results
show high performance of the system. In particular, the precision and
recall rate are 95.7% and 95.7%, respectively.
