[Statement] Over the years, the IEICE Communications Society has played an important role in accelerating the research and development of new telecommunication technologies and in facilitating the interaction between industry and academia. I am one of the individuals who realized his potential with the Society, and I am truly grateful for its continued stability. While information and communication technologies are expected to continue to grow steadily, industries that tend to emphasize short-term returns on investment have begun seeing less value in the IEICE, i.e., in paying the IEICE’s membership fees, in joining its events, and in submitting and reading its journal papers. The IEICE needs to enhance its perceived value by strengthening its unifying force and transmission capabilities and by producing more useful research results that influence the links between industry and academia. It is my sincere desire to contribute to making the Communications Society more attractive for both industry and academia.
