［所信表明］
信学会のエレクトロニクスソサイエティで活動されている皆様は、学会や研究会に何を求めているでしょうか。学会会員数や、学会参加人数が年々減ると言われて久しいです。その原因は一言では言うのは難しいですが、学会に参加して得られる情報、学会発表して交わされる議論ができる場を提供できているのか、まさに問われているような気が致します。その状況を打破すべく、エレクトロニクスソサイエティでは体制改革に向けて舵を切ります。また、実施時期としてはもうしばらく先になりそうですが、研究会の開催の体裁についての従来の制約をはずし、自由な形で議論したいことを議論しやすくするための改革も検討が始まりました。さらに、論文誌の価値を高めるための取り組みも、今後必要になると考えております。まだ検討の緒に着いたばかりで、本当に意味のある実を実らせるためには関係者の皆様と議論することも必要ですし、皆様のご協力も不可欠です。参加したい、参加してよかったと思える学会となるよう、力を尽くさせていただく所存です。どうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。

[Statement]
It is the right time to deeply consider what IEICE can offer the opportunities of the desired information and discussion on the conferences and workshops for members. In the Electronics Society, the ways to solve these problems have been begun to be discussed. Moreover, to make Transactions more valuable to the wide area of the Electronics, we have to do some actions. To achieve the fruitful environment for every members, not only the steering committee members but also each member should discuss together, and find out the meaningful way. I would be pleased to have the opportunities to contribute such efforts for the Electronics Society.

[Biography]
Hiroyuki Uenohara received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electronics from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1987, 1989, and 1995, respectively. In 1989, he joined NTT Optoelectronics Laboratories. He was with Princeton University as a visiting scientist since 1996 until 1997. In 1999, he moved to NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories. Since he joined Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2001, his research has been on optical signal processing subsystems and their related optical devices. He was a Director of Technical Liason since 2013 until 2015. He is now a Chair of the Technical Committee of Optoelectronics.
