As a part of social and economy activities
improvement process, the world society is entering an information-oriented
community. The technology and information system has been
used in many sectors, such as trade or business (electronic
commerce), education (tele-education), health (telemedical),
teleworking, transportation, industries, tourism, environment
and entertainment. The information system itself consists
of the ways to collect, store, process, produce and disseminates
information from and to the industries and society in fast
and effective manner.

Computer technology, the spreading of communication network
and multimedia technology are becoming a backbone in the next
21st century. The convergence of telecommunication technology,
computer and content yield new products and services
Development and operation of information and communication
will have its benefits and get success in availability of
human resources that can support, use, operate and develop
information technology.

The population of Indonesia in 2004 is about
210 millions people, there are many problems that must be
solved. The role of electronics, information and communications
technologist in all aspect of life are very significant.
An organization to manage the sharing of knowledge between
engineer and researcher in Indonesia and in the world in
general is necessary.
My name is Suhono Harso Supangkat, faculty staff at Department
of Electrical Engineering, Bandung Institute of Technology,
Indonesia. My current research interest is multimedia communications,
information technology architecture and cyberspace engineering.
I feel great honour to be appointed as the representative
of IEICE in Indonesia area, one of five IEICE Area Representative.
A program planning in the coming two years in this area
are:

Organize a seminar or distinguished
program more than twice yearly to educate student and
refresh engineer and researcher in a new knowledge. |

Technically co-sponsor
selected domestic conferences or symposia to promote
the IEICE |

Established a relationship
with Indonesian organization that related with electronics,
information and communication engineer. |
