Electrical Contacts,
together with IS-EMD 2006

6-9 June 2006,
Sendai International Center, Sendai, JAPAN

Chairperson's Message

The 23rd International Conference on Electrical Contacts (ICEC) is to be held in Sendai, Japan, from June 6(Tuesday) to 9(Friday),2006. We, all committee members, welcome you to participate to this conference not only for academic or technological merits but also for getting touch with a unique Japanese culture at this city of Sendai. Sendai is for the first time to hold the ICEC, after 8th at Tokyo in 1976 and 17th at Nagoya 1994. Sendai, the population is about one million and the capital city of northern part of mainland Japan, is well facilitated in transportations of both air port (Sendai Air Port) and railway (Tohoku Sinkansen; bullet train). The location of Sendai is about 350km north of Tokyo. You can access Sendai by a bullet train from Tokyo with only one and 40 minutes by the train named Hayate-Komachi that is the fastest. People living in Sendai are all proud of Sendai as a city that has both high academic activity and matured provincial culture. Lord Masamune Date established his regime here some 400 years ago. You can see his figure in this page as an armed on horse warlord. Until now, people in Sendai are respectful to Masamune as a founder of today's Sendai. Before the World War II, Sendai was called The Capital of Forest, but at the latter end of the war, whole city was burned out, but changed its figure modernized like today after the World War II, as an academic and cultural city.

The 23rd ICEC/2006/Sendai will deliver wide variety of information on the present state of the arts on electrical contacts which includes not only new findings in the current subjects on contact behavioral phenomena and practice but also recent new contact system such as MEMS and the other subjects concerning strict requirements for connector in a GHz era of digital transmission which are annoying subjects of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility). Since the electrical contacts cannot elude the EMC problems, we will meet some discussions on this subject as a part of ICEC/Sendai.

To all participants, we want to say that the most valuable thing must be, of course, to catch up the newest information on electrical contacts, but besides, the equally valuable thing is to get acquaintance with persons who are interesting in the same matters with you, that will be nourishment for your future abundant life. Finally, we hope the 23rd ICEC will become a historical conference with an innovative impact in future.
