| 抄録（和） | 本稿では，1993 年に海岸から山頂部を含む島の約 2 割にあたる森林 10,000ha 余が自然遺産として世界遺産条約の遺産リストに登録された屋久島について概説する．まず，屋久島の概要に触れた後，屋久島の自然の垂直分布について述べる．屋久島は，海抜付近は照葉樹林であるが，高度が高くなるにつれて，屋久杉林，山頂草原帯と，多様な自然を見せている．続いて，屋久島の地理的な特徴を，主に海上の道という観点から示す．水の巡りという側面から，屋久島に見られる多様性と豊かな水を活用した産業を説明し，最後に，山と里，そして海の景観について述べる． |
| 抄録（英） | This paper outlines Yakushima where forest with about 10,000 hectare, i.e., about 20% of its island including seashore and mountains, has been registered as the natural world heritage. First, the overview of Yakushima is summarized, and the vertical distribution of Yakushima nature is described. Although the seashore in Yakushima is evergreen forest, the nature of Yakushima shows diversity as the altitude increases. Yakusugi forest and green field spread at high altitude. Next, the geographical characteristics of Yakushima are shown from the viewpoint of load on sea, and the industry using the multiplicity of nature and plenty of water is explained. Finally, the landscape of mountain, village, and sea is described. |
