| 抄録（和） | ルータに代表されるIP転送装置は，その内部構成において，装置全体のIP転送処理動作の制御を司る制御系エレメント（CE：Control Element）とIP転送に伴うパケット処理そのものを司る転送系エレメント（FE：Forwarding Element）をモジュール化し，両者をベンダ独自仕様のインタフェースで結合するシステムとすることで，装置構成の柔軟性やモジュール毎の独立した機能や性能の拡張性を高めているものが多い．現在Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) のForwarding and Control Element Separation Working Group (ForCES WG) では，IP転送装置のCEとFEを分離したモデルにおける，CE-FE間インタフェースに用いる標準プロトコルの規定が進められている．ForCESプロトコルの適用により，異なるベンダのCE装置とFE装置を組み合わせたマルチベンダIP転送装置の構築が可能となる．このことは，IP転送装置市場への新規ベンダ参入のハードルを下げ，競争促進による市場の活性化に繋がる．本稿では，ForCES関連RFCのエディタである筆者がForCESプロトコルの概要を解説する． |
| 抄録（英） | Many IP forwarding devices, such as routers, are composed of two types of modularized functional elements, “Control Element (CE)” and “Forwarding Element (FE)”. CEs are responsible for the control of the overall IP forwarding operation of the device. FEs are responsible for the IP packet processing associated with each IP forwarding operation of the device. This constitution method allows the devices to take a flexible device configuration and extend the functions and performance of each element individually. Such devices usually have some kind of proprietary interface between the CE and the FE. Currently, the Forwarding and Control Element Separation Working Group (ForCES WG) of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is defining a protocol and associated mechanisms for standardizing the exchange of information between the logically separate functionality of the CE and the FE. The ForCES protocol realizes a multivendor IP forwarding device composed of elements from several different vendors. This encourages competition in the market by new entries. This paper gives a lecture on the ForCES protocol. |
