An ATM cell discard which is caused by congestion in ATM networks makes the packet invalid. In order to avoid this throughput degradation through the packet discard at the destination due to the single cell discard. The EPD(Early Packet Discard) intends to increase the transmission efficiency by discarding all component ATM cells of a packet when the queue length exceeds the threshold(TH) value. By the EPD, End of Packet (EOP) cell of AAL5 can be discarded, which causes two consecutive packets discard. In order to avoid the EOP cell discard, a new scheme two-threshold EPD scheme was proposed, which adopts two threshold a fixed threshold and a dynamically controlled threshold to allow a space for EOP cell. Still, by two-threshold EPD scheme, miss packet-permission-rate degradation may occur due to the decreased buffer space between these two threshold. In this paper a new EPD scheme is proposed by adopting control scheme of two thresholds with the constant buffer space between these two thresholds. Simulation results are shown to confirm the better miss packet-permission-rate, same fairness and valid cell sate than the two-threshold EPD scheme. |
