Provisions on Commendation of Electronics Society

Section 1 General Provisions

Article 1
Based on Article 3 of the Management Regulations of the Electronics Society, awards to persons or groups that have made outstanding achievements in academic and related activities concerning electronics shall be presented.
Article 2
The types of commendation shall be as follows:
(1)
Electronics Society Award
(2)
Electronics Letter Paper Award
(3)
ELEX Best Paper Award
(4)
Electronics Society Student Award
(5)
Electronics Society Invited Paper Award
(6)
Electronics Society Excellent Master's Graduates Award
Article 3
To select candidates for the commendations listed in Article 2, the Society shall set up a selection committee for each type of commendation, assigning a chairperson to each committee.
Article 4
The Society Executive Committee shall determine the recipient of each commendation through a resolution based on a recommendation by the chairpersons of the committees described in Article 3.
Article 5
When the recipient of each commendation was determined, the name and achievement of the recipient shall be publicized as soon as possible through home page, mailing list, society news, etc.
Article 6
Certificates for each commendation shall be presented at the General Conference, the Society Conference, or other suitable forum.

Section 2 Electronics Society Award

Article 7
Electronics Society Awards, as compared with the Achievement Award, shall be given for the achievement that falls under the items in either of the following (1) or (2). The fields of the Society shall be divided into three, from each of which the candidates shall be selected, and the Award shall be presented to contributors of total three items, one from each field. Even if no candidate is selected in each area, the number of Awards for the other areas shall not be increased. Award recipients shall be limited to no more than three per achievement.
(1)
Research involving new inventions, theories, experiments, methods, etc., related to electronics, the result of which have made a clear contribution to the academic field; and
(2)
Developments and manufacturing of new equipment, devices, or methods related to electronics, the result of which has been outstanding, with said industrial achievements having come to light in a few years.
2.
The field of electronics (the main corresponding Technical Committees) shall be as follows:
(1)
Electromagnetic theories and microwave (electromagnetic theory, microwave/THz wave, electronic simulation technology)
(2)
Optical semiconductor and photonics (optoelectronics, lasers and quantum electronics, microwave and millimeter-wave photonics, polymer optical circuit, integrated and ultrafast optoelectronics, silicon and nanophonics); and
(3)
Circuit and electronics (component parts and materials, electron devices, silicon devices and materials, electronic information displays, electromechanical devices, magnetic recording, information storage, integrated circuits and devices, superconductive electronics, and organic material).
3.
This Award is intended to honor young, talented researchers.
4.
The contributors to the achievement shall, as a general rule, be a member of the Electronics Society.
5.
A recipient of this Award must not, as a general rule, have previously received the IEICE Distinguished Achievement and Contributions Award or the Achievement Award. A recipient of the Distinguished Achievement and Contributions Award or the Achievement Award must not be a recipient of this Award in the same business year, except that a different achievement from those for which the Distinguished Achievement and Contributions Award or the Achievement Award has been presented may be eligible for this Award.
Article 8
The Electronics Society Award shall take the form of a certificate and prize money.
2.
The Prize shall be 150,000 yen per Award.

Section 3 Electronics Letter Paper Award

Article 9
The Electronics Letter Paper Award (hereinafter referred to as "Letter Paper Award") shall be presented to the authors of letters published in the Transactions on Electronics (JP) that have been selected for displaying outstanding excellence.
Article 10
A letter eligible for the Award shall be one each year.
Article 11
To be eligible for selection, letters must have been published between April of the preceding year of the Society Conference where the Awards are presented and March of the year of such Awards.
Article 12
In the case where the letter receiving the award is co-authored, all authors shall be presented with the award.
Article 13
The Letter Paper Award may be received on multiple occasions by the same author.
Article 14
The Letter Paper Award shall take the form of a certificate and prize money.
2.
The Prize shall be 50,000 yen per Award.
Article 15
The Letter Paper Award Selection Committee shall be placed immediately after the Society Conference.
Article 16
The chairperson of the Letter Paper Award Selection Committee shall be the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (JP). In addition, the committee shall consist of the Vice-President, Chair, Publication Activities Council; the chairperson of the Society Conference; the secretary of such conference; the Editor, Transactions on Electronics (JP); the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (E); and five persons that the chairperson selects among the members of the editorial committee of the Transactions on Electronics (JP).

Section 4 ELEX Best Paper Award

Article 17
The ELEX Best Paper Awards shall be presented to the authors of papers published in the IEICE Electronics Express (hereinafter abbreviated as the “ELEX”) that have been selected for displaying outstanding excellence.
Article 18
A paper eligible for the Award shall be one each year.
Article 19
To be eligible for selection, papers must have been published between January of the year of the Society Conference where the Awards are presented and December of such year.
Article 20
In the case where the paper receiving the award is co-authored, all authors shall be presented with the award.
Article 21
The ELEX Best Paper Award may be received on multiple occasions by the same author.
Article 22
The ELEX Best Paper Award shall take the form of a certificate and prize money.
2.
The Prize shall be 100,000 yen per Award.
Article 23
The ELEX Best Paper Awards Selection Committee shall be placed immediately after the Society Conference.
Article 24
The chairperson of the ELEX Best Paper Awards Selection Committee shall be the Editor-in-Chief, ELEX. In addition, the committee shall consist of the Vice President, Chair, Publication Activities Council; the chairperson of the Society Conference; the secretary of such conference; the Editor, ELEX; the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (JP); the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (E); and five persons that the chairperson selects among the members of the editorial committee of the ELEX.

Section 5 Electronics Society Student Award

Article 25
Electronics Society Student Award (hereinafter abbreviated as "Student Award") shall be presented, among Student Members of this Society who have given an excellent presentation (general presentation and symposium presentation) regarding the electronics field in the General Conference and the Society Conference, to the selected person who fulfills all of the criteria of the following items:
(1)
They must be a student member of the Society at the time of the presentation eligible for the selection; provided, however, that if the presentation in the General Conference is carried out in early April, the time when such presentation is given shall be construed as the end of March;
(2)
They must be a member of the Society at the time of Award;
(3)
They must have registered as the chief writer and speaker when signing up for conference participation and have presented at the said conference; provided, however, that if no conference is held due to a disaster, etc., persons may be entitled for the selection by agreement of the Student Award Selection Committee and the approval of the Society Executive Committee; and
(4)
They must not have previously received the Academic Encouragement Award of the IEICE nor this Award; provided, however, that this does not preclude that the presentation eligible for the Award be selected for the Academic Encouragement Award at the same time.
2.
For the Student Awards, six persons in total shall be selected for the Society Conference and the General Conference, two each of which shall be selected from the three selection fields determined elsewhere. Details of the candidate selection procedures shall be determined elsewhere.
Article 26
The Electronics Society Student Award Selection Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Committee") shall be established at each of the General Conference and the Society Conference.
2.
The chairperson of both the General Conference and the Society Conference shall be the Vice-President, Chair, Technical Council.
3.
The committee of the Society Conference shall comprise the Director, Finance and General Affairs as director (chief) and the Secretary, General and Society Conferences as director (deputy). The committee of the General Conference shall comprise the Secretary, General and Society Conferences as director (chief) and Director, Finance and General Affairs as director (deputy). The secretaries shall assist the chairpersons and serve for the contact and adjustment between the Committee, Technical Committees, and secretarial offices, but shall not participate in the vote for the selection of candidates and scoring lectures.
4.
The Committee members shall consist of twelve persons in total (excluding the sitting related persons of the Technical Committees), four each of which are selected among the members of the Society Steering Committee and former members thereof for each of the three fields determined elsewhere. The approval for the members by the Executive Committee shall not be required. In addition, persons who belong to the same organization as the candidates recommended from the Technical Committees and the co-author thereof must not be appointed as members. The members may be re-elected but no person may serve as a member for two consecutive times or four cumulative times.
Article 27
The Student Award shall take the form of a plaque and prize money.
2.
The Prize shall be 30,000 yen per Award.

Section 6 Electronics Society Invited Paper Award

Article 28
Electronics Society Invited Paper Award (hereinafter abbreviated as "Invited Paper Award") shall be presented to the authors of invited papers among invited papers and tutorial papers published in the Transactions on Electronics (JP) and invited papers published in the Transactions on Electronics (E) that have been selected for displaying outstanding excellence.
Article 29
An invited paper eligible for the Award shall be one each year.
Article 30
To be eligible for selection, invited papers must have been published between October of the year two years before the Society Conference where the Awards are presented and September of the preceding year of the Awards ceremony.
Article 31
In the case where the invited paper receiving the award is co-authored, all authors shall be presented with the award.
Article 32
The Invited Best Paper Award may be received on multiple occasions by the same author.
Article 33
The Invited Best Paper Award shall take the form of a certificate and prize money.
2.
The Prize shall be 100,000 yen per Award.
Article 34
The Invited Paper Awards Selection Committee shall be established and the chairperson of which is the Vice President, Chair, Publication Activities Council. The vice-chairpersons shall be the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (JP) and the Editor-in-Chief, Transactions on Electronics (E); the secretaries shall be the Editors, Transactions on Electronics (JP) and (E); and the committee members shall be the members of the editorial Committee of the Transactions on Electronics (JP) and (E).

Section 7 Electronics Society Excellent Master's Graduates Award

Article 35
Electronics Society Excellent Master's Graduates Award (hereafter abbreviated as the “Excellent Master's Graduates Award”) shall be presented to students of the Electronics Society or students who have completed application for entry at the time of award who belong to a university or department (hereafter referred to a “specialty university”) recognized to have contributed to the Society, have completed with excellent result the master degree program the specialty university offers, and are expected to contribute to the electronics field in the future.
2.
The Excellent Student Completion Award shall be presented to a maximum of 15 candidates. Details of screening candidates shall be separately decided.
Article 36
An Electronics Society Excellent Master's Graduates Award Committee chaired by Vice President, Planning, Member Activities and Finance, (hereafter referred to as the “Committee”) shall be established.
2.
The Director, Planning and Membership (successor), shall be the secretary (chief) and the Director, Planning and Membership (senior), shall be the secretary (deputy).
3.
The members shall comprise the Vice President, Chair, Planning, Membership, and Finance Council as the chair and, of the planning conference members, the Director, Finance (senior), and the Director, Finance (successor), as members. The members shall not have to be approved by the Executive Committee.
Article 37
The Excellent Student Completion Award shall present a plaque and prize to winners.
2.
The prize shall be 15,000 yen per award.
