IEICE EiC

@Kaoru Arakawa

@The phenomenon of decreasing birthrate and aging population is cited as a serious problem in Japan. This has a negative impact to IEICE, in terms of a decrease in the number of members, which might affect the survival of this institute in the future. In order to maintain the activity and continue growing up in such an aging and shrinking society, we should propagate the interesting and valuable aspect of ICT (Information and communication technology) to young people, welcome variety of people, such as people who are not experts of ICT and people who have already retired from their jobs, promote international activities by cooperating with overseas researchers, and create a new research field with people in different fields. Through such activities, I would like to contribute to the development of IEICE.

@I received the B.E., M.E. and Dr.E. degrees in Electronic and Electric Engineering from the Univ, if Tokyo in 1980, 1982, and 1986 respectively. After a research associate at the Univ. of Tokyo, I am now a professor at the department of Frontier Media Science, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences, Meiji University. In 1998 I was a councilor, in 2006 the chair of Technical Committee on Smart Info-media System, in 2010 the director of investigation in IEICE. I am now a council member of SCJ and fellows of IEICE and JFES.
