Senior Member Review Committee Provisions

Enacted April 14, 2008


	Article 1: The Senior Member Review Committee conducts the final screening of candidates recommended by the societies for Senior Member, makes any numeric adjustments that may be required, and reports the results to the Board of Directors for approval. These provisions establish the procedural arrangements required to implement the provisions set forth in Article 7 of the Senior Member Recommendation Provisions.

	Article 2: The Senior Member Review Committee is presided over by a Chair and a Secretary. 2. The Chair is a regional Vice President who assumes the post in odd-numbered years, and the Secretary is a Senior Director of General Affairs. 3. The other members of the committee are as follows. a) Society representatives, President-Elect of Society, one each: total 4 persons. b) Board of Directors, 4: Director of Strategic Planning, Successor Director of General Affairs, Senior Director of Finance, Senior Director of Conferences, Student Activities, and Education. c) The Chair appoints the other members of the committee.

Article 3: The Chair presides over the committee. 2. The Secretary assists the Chair in running the committee.

	Article 4: The Chair, the Secretary, and other committee members of the Senior Member Review Committee are appointed by the President. 2. A single term of service on the committee is defined as 1 year. The Chair normally serves for 2 terms, while the Secretary and other committee members of the committee generally serve until the end of the year in which they were appointed.

	Article 5: The committee performs the following tasks to fulfill its mission. a) Reviews Senior Member candidates (hereafter referred to as the candidates) recommended by the societies to ensure they are eligible are qualified. b) Reviews candidates to ensure they are professionally and otherwise suitable for elevation to Senior Member. c) Eliminates duplicate candidates recommended by more than one society and make other adjustments that may be required. d) Reports the results of the screening to the Board of Directors.

	Article 6: The specific steps in carrying out its assigned tasks as defined in the preceding Article 5 are as follows. a) The societies send lists of their Senior Member candidates (the form is described elsewhere) and sets of other relevant documentation to the committee by April 15 of each year. b) The number of final candidates following the review is set forth in the Senior Member Recommendation Provisions. c) The review results are finalized by early May, and reported to the Board of Directors for approval at the Board meeting held in May. d) Candidates for Senior Member are evaluated based on the following criteria. e) Contributions as originators in engineering or science, promoters of IEICE activities, leaders in technical development, as educators, or any combination of these activities. f) Membership in the IEICE for a total of at least 5 years, in professional practice in IEICE-designated fields for at least 10 years, and significant performance over a period of at least 5 of those years. g) Other considerations as deemed necessary.

	Article 7: The committee's operational expenses are provided out of the central IEICE budget.

	These provisions shall go into effect from May 27, 2008.
