6.Improvement of the IEICE Journal, Transactions, and Technical Reports


(1) Conversion to A4 format

The Journal of IEICE and the IEICE Transactions (Japanese Edition) had traditionally been published in B5 format. In view of the general trend to convert to A4 format in Japan, we studied the possibility of conversion to A4 format.

As a result, we began to publish the Journal of IEICE in A4 format in January 2000, but decided to postpone the adoption of A4 format for the IEICE Transactions (Japanese Edition).

After further study, we began to publish the IEICE Technical Reports in A4 format in 2002.
(2) Dates of publication of the Journal of IEICE and Transactions

Traditionally, the Journal of IEICE were published on the 25th of each month. However, this inevitably resulted in the President’s New Year greeting appearing in the Journal at the end of January. To solve this problem, in January 2001 we began to publish the Journal on the first day of the month. This required the task of publishing the December 2000 issue on December 25, and the January 2001 issue on January 1st, only seven days later. This was achieved successfully. Since Transactions are sent out in the same envelope as the Journal of IEICE, their publication date had to be moved. This move was completed successfully thanks to the tremendous effort made by the Editors of Transactions.

The content and layout of the Journal of IEICE had been reviewed continuously, but fundamental improvements in its design have been in progress since 2004. In particular, a special feature issue of the Journal of IEICE was published in 2007 because this year commemorated the 90th anniversary of the IEICE and also the 1000th issue of the Journal.




7. Others Activities


The Secretariat has cooperated with the Societies in their activities to increase the membership during international conferences organized by the Societies and held overseas. We will continue to extend their service for the globalization of the IEICE.
