Symposium Information
Chairperson's message

It is my great pleasure to welcome all of my colleagues, from overseas and here in Japan, to 2009 International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, Kyoto. It is the sixth event of every five years since 1984.
During the past five years, an explosive increase in the number of mobile phones and other sophisticated electronic devices has highlighted the problems for EMC, and enhanced the need for more countermeasures to solve the problems. The ultimate goal for EMC technologies is to enable the use of electromagnetic energy without causing adverse side effects. EMC technologies in Japan have been cultivated mostly in consumer electronics, apart from the military. Kyoto has 1600 years history as the metropolis of Japan, and is featured with very much sophisticated culture as well as fine technologies. Greater part of consumer electronics in Japan is strongly related in the area around Kyoto. I find a significance to invite EMC people both from abroad and from Japan to Kyoto, in order to mix them up and motivate them to come up with new ideas.
Prof. Risaburo Sato, the former Chapter chair, has done significant research work in wireless communication and EMC fields, in addition to tirelessly promoting a variety of EMC research projects in Japan. In consideration of his outstanding contributions to the EMC society, the organizing committee of this symposium carries the ‘Risaburo Sato Award’ for the best paper.
I, as the chair of EMC'09/Kyoto, sincerely hope that this symposium will have a great impact on all the participants through a mutually beneficial information exchange, and person to person communications during the technical sessions, banquet, and so on. I also wish all the participants a pleasant stay in Kyoto, one of the most historical and sightseeing spots in Japan.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the participating industries and organizations for their financial and moral support. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all the committee members of this symposium for their hard work in making this symposium a great success.
