MMAC systems at NTT Yokosuka R&D Center

With the emergence of multimedia applications and advanced information services, demand for radio based broadband access has emerged as well.
NTT Access Network Service Systems Laboratories has been conducting research and develop of new systems that allow them to reach their customers using radio technologies. @We have researched and developed Ethernet-based wireless LAN system and Advanced wireless access (AWA) system delivering telecommunications services into and within residences and businesses. Ethernet-based wireless LAN system is based on ARIB STD-T71 (CSMA), which is compliant to IEEE 802.11a. AWA system is the broadband wireless access system based on ARIB STD-T70 (HiSWANa), which is aligned to HiperLAN/2.

Connect effortlessly at high speed to a variety of multimedia content, from anywhere at anytime.Thatfs what you can expect in the exciting new era of mobile multimedia communications. NTT DoCoMo opens up this dynamic new world of possibility when it launches FOMA(FOMA is the name used in Japan for NTT DoCoMo W-CDMA services), the worldfs first 3G mobile communications service, in May 2001. FOMA(Freedom of Mobile multimedia Access) aptly describes the new communications freedom of this revolutionary service. Not only will it deliver superior-quality voice communications, but FOMA will also fuel the dramatic evolution of i-mode and other web-connection services, full-motion video image transmission, music and game distribution and other high-speed, large-capacity data communications. FOMA will turn dreams into reality by pioneering new avenues for mobile multimedia communications. A world away from conventional cellular phone services, FOMA will blaze new trails to bring unprecedented convenience and possibilities into peoplefs business and personal lives.

Visit to CRL Yokosuka

Yokosuka Radio Communications Research Center of Communications Research Laboratory, Independent Administrative Institution of Japan (CRL Yokosuka) has been conducting R&D on technologies for multimedia wireless/mobile communication network systems in the future. The R&D includes those for the broadband access communication systems using stratospheric stations, the broadband access communication systems using terrestrial stations, the telecommunication systems for Intelligent Transport System (ITS), and technology to enable various wireless/mobile communication networks usable in integrated and seamless ways. In the technical visit of APCCf01, experimental facilities of ITS telecommunications and broadband wireless home-video-link system in millimeter-wave bands will be introduced.
